The Starting Point
Public Diplomacy staff often needed learning that fit into their day due to the overwhelming demands of meetings, travel, and competing priorities. Traditional training was available, but often required dedicated time that was difficult to carve out from an already crowded workload.

Follow the Trail
The trail follows the subject from the initial observation through the decision and production steps that turned the learning need into two audio guides.

The Big Picture
Staff focused on implementing initiatives, often defaulting to broad audiences like "the general public" or "civil society". With less experience in planning and little time to learn new approaches, the same patterns continued.
Staff were not disengaged or uninterested in learning. Learning simply fell out of the workflow, not because it wasn't valued, but because there wasn't time to step away from the work to learn.
The audio guides were adopted as an on-demand resource, making learning more portable within practitioners’ existing workflows. Website clicks provided engagement data, though downstream learning or behavior change was not measured.

The Reflection
The audio format fit the reality of the audience. Short soundbites gave practitioners a way to access learning without setting aside dedivated training time, and the files could be easily shared and accessed through the existing website.
Short-form audio requires a different approach. Without visual cues to reinforce the content, the script and sound design must work together to guide the learner and create enough context to make the experience immersive.
The subject identified an opportunity to strengthen analytics in the delivery experience. If the WordPress environment supported an LRS or xAPI integration, learner interactions such as plays, completions, repeated visits, and engagement with individual soundbites could be tracked, providing evidence of how learning was actually used.
